OK, my M1 Mac Studio failed in late October. Fortunately, the computer was over a year old under Apple Care. It seems that the internal SSD failed, and the machine would not boot up. I went through the standard troubleshooting procedures with no luck. I then called Apple, and they had me repeat all the steps I had already done with again no luck. They suggested I take it to the Apple Store, which I did the following day. The Apple Genius repeated the same steps with the same results. He stated it needed a new Logic Board, which he placed on order. The estimated time to repair was three business days.

The November 12th photo tour yielded many fine images in spite of less than cooperative weather. Arriving early, several of us photographed along the road at Lake Martin. The soft subtle light, which we had throughout the trip, yielded some nice low-contrast images. Sunday evening and Tuesday morning we visited Lake Martin by boat. At Lake Martin, we encountered nice fall colors and a variety of birds. Monday was spent editing images with rain all day. On the final day, Wednesday, we visited Lake Dauterive and we were rewarded with mist which was fantastic for creating high-key images. A gallery of images may be seen here.

I’ve just finished a custom photo tour covering fall cypress schenes and the occasional bird. Here’s a link to a gallery of images taken on the tour; enjoy.

I'm preparing for a photo shoot at Lake Dauterive for my next two photo tours. While visiting several locations, this paper will explore the thought process for Lake Dauterive; it is the site where I photograph my favorite Louisiana Fall images. Thought processes for the other locations are similar. I want to share my planning and thought processes during the trip to ensure everything goes smoothly and I and the other photographers return with stunning images. Even if you’re visiting this site or any other, the thought process for a photo trip is similar.

I previously wrote about Lake Martin's current situation. Many changes have occurred at the lake over the past few years. Firstly, the boat launch and several surrounding areas were inaccessible for over a year due to a property dispute. Although much of the dispute has been resolved, some places we could photograph are still restricted. Fortunately, the peninsula next to the launch we used to photograph sunsets, is now open again.

I spend most of my time indoors working on my computer during June, July, and August. Besides editing and printing images, I have also been revamping my website. I have designed a new logo, changed my About page, improved the captions on my portfolio page, and revised the content on my tours and workshop pages. I plan to work on the rest of the pages on my site. Please take a moment to visit my website and share your feedback. Your comments are valuable to me.

I had my usual friendly group of photographers for my May Photo Tour. Except for the onshore trip at Lake Martin, where we found little to photograph and a less-than-stellar sunset, we had some excellent photo opportunities.

Spring comes early in Louisiana, and the trees are beginning to have leaves. Great Egrets have arrived at Cazan Lake, and the photo season has started. I've timed my tours to coincide with the peak of the nesting season and before the weather is too hot and humid.

The 2022 Fall tours provided great opportunities for everyone attending. We had good backlit situations for both photo tours, and I've included some examples of images I was able to create. Also, the second tour included an evening boat tour of Lake Martin. We had excellent light and got some nice shots of alligators and birds.

Fall Tours
Space remains in my photo tour on November 28th . I have 3 participants currently andtwo spots are remaining. I limit my tours to no more than 5 participants allowing lots of hands-on assistance if required. Fall comes late in Louisiana, with the Cypress colorful during the last two weeks of November into early December. The tours include destinations accessed by power boats or on land, featuring large old-growth cypress trees growing in the water. A variety of weather conditions provide excellent photo opportunities. Frequently on cold, still mornings, the mist is over the water, and by positioning the boat or yourself, the mist takes on a yellow cast. Other mornings bring heavy fog obscuring the background and allowing stunning high-key black and white and color images. Finally, you can make more traditional fall images on clear sunning days. I hope you will join us on one of these tours.
