Black and White photograph of Cypress Stumps taken in Henderson Swamp on a very Foggy Morning. The Trees were logged many years ago and only the stumps remain.
A layer of fog formed over the surface of Lake Dauterive. We positioned the boat so the sun would rise directly behind the ancient Cypress Tree, making the fog glow red with a dark blue sky. The morning was perfectly still, allowing the perfect reflection.

On cold crisp mornings, a layer of fog often forms on Lake Dauterive, allowing photographers to make stunning golden-hued images. This morning's conditions were perfect: nice fog, rust-colored bypass leaves, and beautiful light.

This scene was photographed as a vertical panorama to include the tops of the trees.
In one of our favorite sunrise locations in Henderson Swamp, which we know as "the big cypress," we encountered this great egret in beautiful light. I composed this shot to show off the cypress trees with the egret as a part of the composition.
Male Great Egrets pick the nesting spot and do an elaborate dance to attract a mate. This bird is in the middle of its dance among the beautiful cypress trees at Cazan Lake. On our Spring Louisiana Bird Photography tours, we often encounter this dance.

Discover the beauty of Louisiana's diverse natural landscapes through Charles Bush Nature Photography. Whether you're drawn to the vibrant world of bird photography or captivated by the serene majesty of fall cypress swamps, my site offers a window into the heart of Louisiana's wilderness.
As a seasoned nature photographer, I specialize in capturing the unique character of Louisiana's ecosystems. Bird photography is a particular passion of mine, as the state is home to an incredible array of species. From the elegant great egret gliding over quiet waters to the striking roseate spoonbill in flight, each image reflects my dedication to showcasing the beauty and behavior of these remarkable creatures.
In addition to bird photography, I focus on the enchanting landscapes of Louisiana’s cypress swamps during the fall. These swamps transform into an artist’s palette of orange, gold, and crimson as the cypress trees shed their needles. The tranquil reflections, Spanish moss-draped branches, and golden-hour light create breathtaking opportunities to capture the soul of this unique environment.
Through this site, you’ll find curated galleries, blog posts sharing behind-the-scenes stories, and tips to inspire your own photography journey. For those looking to immerse themselves in these experiences, I offer guided tours where you can explore these magical places firsthand.
