Becky Burt is an incredible Metalsmith, creating whimsical works from industrial pieces from the early to mid 20th century.
Until recently, Becky's work has been relatively small, from jewelry to pieces appropriate for display in a cabinet or shelf. However, Becky's current work is much larger, up to 7ft tall.
So recently Becky called and asked I photograph the current work and due to its size, that I photograph it where it is being displayed at the Hammond Regional Art Center, rather than in my office studio where I normally do this work.
Therefore I packed up my equipment and headed to the Center. The folks at the center were great. Given the nature of the work to be photographed, large lights were key as was a white background. A white background was used since Becky will have multiple uses for the photographs. From Jury slices, which mill be on a gray gradient background, to promotional materials which would need to match other work.
Shown above is a setup for one of the larger pieces and below the current photographs and shots from earlier shoots.
