Fall Tour Recap, Z8 Camera Tips, and Spring Tour Opportunities
As we have wrapped up the first fall tour, I’m excited to share some highlights and valuable tips that might enhance your photography experience. Despite last week’s challenging weather, we made great memories and captured beautiful images. Check out the gallery here to see the best shots from our trip—proof that even under less-than-ideal conditions, great photographs are possible.
Tips & Discoveries with the Z8 Camera
This tour allowed me to experiment with the Nikon Z8’s features, and I found a few techniques especially useful:
Exposure Bracketing & HDR Techniques
I set the Z8 to bracket exposures by one or two stops to adapt to changing light and used the camera’s 20 fps burst mode. Even on the boat, these settings allowed me to create images that worked well for HDR processing in Photoshop. HDR saved several shots, capturing details that might have been lost otherwise. This setup helped me select the frame with the best exposure for single images, reducing noise and enhancing clarity. In the future, I plan to blend bracketed images using luminosity masks for a more natural look rather than relying on HDR.
Fine-Tuning Focus with Manual Override & Focus Peaking
While I began with autofocus to set the initial focus, I found that switching to manual focus with focus peaking enabled provided better control. With focus peaking, I could see which areas were in focus and ensure the most critical parts of the image were sharp and well-defined. This approach provided extra precision.
