This is a quick newsletter this month. We're bracing for a hurricane hitting about 30 miles to our west later this afternoon. Fortunately, it is not a strong storm, and it's moving quickly and will be gone by this time tomorrow. But I'm in full preparation mode, and I thought I'd go through how I'm approaching the risk with the computers and camera equipment.
- I've reviewed my backups and made sure they ran. So, I have all my data on three hard drives and backed up to Backblaze on the cloud in case of a catastrophic event.
- Computer equipment is running on my UPS, fully charged and working.
- I've ensured all applications are current on my desktop and laptop. If we need to evacuate, I'll take the laptop computer and one of the drives with me.
- As the storm approaches, I'll power down the desktop computer and the data hard drives. If things look terrible, I'll store the desktop computer and one of the drives in a waterproof Pelican case.
- The cameras and most lenses will also go into a Pelican case.
- I'll make a list of camera gear I must take in case of evacuation and have everything laid out and ready to go.
The good news for the fall tours is that this storm is far to the east of the tour locations, and they should not be impacted, so everything is still a go. There's still room for the last fall tour. so consider joining us.
