I had my usual friendly group of photographers for my May Photo Tour. Except for the onshore trip at Lake Martin, where we found little to photograph and a less-than-stellar sunset, we had some excellent photo opportunities.

Spring comes early in Louisiana, and the trees are beginning to have leaves. Great Egrets have arrived at Cazan Lake, and the photo season has started. I've timed my tours to coincide with the peak of the nesting season and before the weather is too hot and humid.

The 2022 Fall tours provided great opportunities for everyone attending. We had good backlit situations for both photo tours, and I've included some examples of images I was able to create. Also, the second tour included an evening boat tour of Lake Martin. We had excellent light and got some nice shots of alligators and birds.

Fall Tours
Space remains in my photo tour on November 28th . I have 3 participants currently andtwo spots are remaining. I limit my tours to no more than 5 participants allowing lots of hands-on assistance if required. Fall comes late in Louisiana, with the Cypress colorful during the last two weeks of November into early December. The tours include destinations accessed by power boats or on land, featuring large old-growth cypress trees growing in the water. A variety of weather conditions provide excellent photo opportunities. Frequently on cold, still mornings, the mist is over the water, and by positioning the boat or yourself, the mist takes on a yellow cast. Other mornings bring heavy fog obscuring the background and allowing stunning high-key black and white and color images. Finally, you can make more traditional fall images on clear sunning days. I hope you will join us on one of these tours.

The Fall tours are far West of Hurricane Ida's path and unaffected by the storm, so the photo tours are going forward as planned. I checked on room availability, and there are rooms available for both photo tours.

I serious hurricane struct Houma, Louisiana where I live, and we have evacuated out of state. Fortunately, the house appears undamaged. The locations where we will be photographing were east of the storm's path and should be unaffected, and I will be conducting the tours as planned.
I intended to post a longer newsletter, but not having access to my desktop machine is limiting what I post.

I've been photographing the swamps here in Louisiana since I moved back in December 2001. I've focused on photographing birds and cypress scenes in color. For several years I've been drawn to rendering swamp scenes in black and white rather than in color.
